Timing of ovulation in a lady is one of the most important event to note while trying to conceive, especially after a period of one year of failing to conceive in-spite of regular intercourse and advancing age. Especially when you are on our homeopathic treatment protocol for conceiving naturally, you must look for the below signs.
In fact one in two couples could be trying to conceive on the wrong days of a woman’s menstrual cycle because they don’t have the knowledge that we are about to share with you here. The signs of ovulation vary from woman to woman. It is possible that some women will not even experience ovulation symptoms. The time of ovulation varies for every woman. Some women ovulate like clock work on the same day of their cycle every month. Other women may ovulate on varying days each month.
There are only a few days (typically 6) each cycle when you can get pregnant, the days leading up to and including the day of ovulation. So knowing when these days are in your cycle is key if you are trying for a baby.
When is Ovulation?
When is ovulation exactly? This can be difficult to predict, but ovulation typically occurs approximately 12-16 days before a woman’s next period begins. Most women have cycles that are in the 26-32 day range and so for most women, ovulation happens around the midpoint of their cycles. However the exact timing of ovulation can vary from one cycle to the next.
When is the best time to have sex if we’re trying to conceive?
Timing is everything. Sperm can live for three to six days, but the egg is around for only 12 to 24 hours. To increase the likelihood of conception, it’s important to have intercourse more than once around the time of ovulation. A good approach is to have sex one to two days before ovulation and again on the day you ovulate. That way, there’s more likely to be a healthy supply of sperm waiting in the fallopian tube when an egg is released.
Of course, exactly when a woman ovulates isn’t altogether clear. It depends in part on the length of your menstrual cycle. A woman typically ovulates about 14 days before her next period — not mid-cycle, as is commonly held.
Calendar method:
- Women with a regular menstrual cycle that is typically 26 to 32 days long may be able to successfully determine their fertile days with methods that track the average number of cycle days. Women with regular cycles may have cycles that vary in length a few days from month to month, but will not experience large variations in the duration of their cycles.
- Review your menstrual cycle charts. Note the number of days in your shortest and longest cycles.
- Subtract 18 from the number of days in your shortest cycle. In a 28 day menstrual cycle, this would be day 10.
- Subtract 11 from the number of days in your longest cycle. Again, in the average 28 day cycle, this would be day 19.
- Circle the dates on your calendar that fall between the first and second cycle days you calculated. For example, a woman whose shortest cycle was 27 days and whose longest cycle was 29 days would circle cycle days 9 through 20. These days are your fertile days.
Common Signs Of Ovulation That Occur In Most Women:
Again, it is important to note that ovulation symptoms vary woman to woman with some women experiencing no symptoms at all.
- Change in cervical fluid. Cervical fluid that resembles “egg whites” is a sign that you are near ovulation or are ovulating. Every woman can experience her own type of cervical fluid, and not all cervical fluid looks the same. Ovulation usually takes place on the day a woman has the most amount of wet fluid.
- Change in basal body temperature. For most women, you will see that prior to ovulation, the basal body temperature is rather consistent. As you get closer to ovulation, you may have a slight decline, but it will be followed by a sharp increase after ovulation. The increase in temperature is the sign that ovulation has just occurred. Tracking your basal body temperature accurately over a few months can help you predict when ovulation is going to occur.
- Change in cervical position or firmness. The cervix goes through many changes as a woman ovulates. A woman may notice the clear signs of ovulation; her cervix will be soft, high, open and wet. For most women it will take some time in studying her body to be able to differentiate between what her cervix normally feels like and the changes it goes through during ovulation.
These 3 main signs of ovulation can be studied and learned so that you can accurately predict your time of ovulation.
If my periods are irregular, will it be harder for me to get pregnant?
Most women have about 12 periods a year, but some have fewer and some skip months or don’t get a period at all. Stress, heavy exercise, dramatic weight loss or gain — all of these can cause interruptions in your period. The more irregular your period is, the more difficult it is to predict ovulation.
Say your cycle is 28 days one month, 21 days the next month, and 32 days the following month. Keep a record of your menstrual cycles for several months. Then subtract 17 from your shortest cycle and 11 from your longest cycle. The days in between the two are the ones you’re most likely to be fertile.
If your cycles are irregular and more than 35 days apart or longer, you should consider seeing your ob-gyn or a fertility specialist to check for other causes of an irregular cycle, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), ovarian dysfunction, thyroid disorder, excessive weight loss or an elevated prolactin level.
Secondary Ovulation Symptoms
There are other ovulation signs that women may experience in addition to the 3 main ovulation symptoms. These are called secondary signs and may not happen as consistently, if at all, for many women.
These ovulation symptoms may include:
- Light spotting
- Slight cramping or pain on one side of the pelvis
- Breast tenderness
- Abdominal bloating
- Increased sex drive
- Heightened sense of smell, taste or vision
If you follow the above guidelines over few months, you can exactly pinpoint the probable day of ovulation.
