About boils
A boil (furuncle) is a painful, pus-filled lump that forms when a hair follicle becomes infected, usually with Staphylococcus bacteria. It begins as a red, tender swelling, grows larger over several days, comes to a head and then bursts or is drained. A cluster of connected boils is called a carbuncle. Boils are more common in people with diabetes, anaemia, poor hygiene, skin conditions or a weakened immune system, and repeated crops of boils should lead to a check of blood sugar and general health. Warm compresses and keeping the area clean help; never squeeze a boil, as this can spread the infection. See a doctor if the boil is on the face or spine, is very large or painful, comes with fever or spreading redness, does not improve in two weeks, or keeps recurring.
Homeopathic medicines for boils
(1) Belladonna: The early stage of a boil that is hot, red, throbbing and shiny, with sensitivity to touch and sometimes fever.
(2) Hepar sulphuris: A very sore, sensitive boil with splinter-like pain, which helps to mature the boil and bring out the pus, with chilliness.
(3) Silicea: Slowly maturing or recurrent boils that are reluctant to burst, traditionally used to help expel the pus and heal.
(4) Tarentula cubensis: Extremely painful, bluish, burning boils or carbuncles with a tendency to ulcerate.
(5) Anthracinum: Carbuncle-like boils with intense burning pain and a bluish-black appearance and offensive discharge.
